The Graduate Programme in Visual Arts at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro consistently offers Master's and Academic Doctorate courses in Visual Arts, is part of the National Graduate System and is accredited by CAPES/MEC.

The PPGAV aims to train researchers, teachers, and highly qualified professionals in the field of visual arts. It also aims to promote critical, theoretical, and methodological reflection on the field of theory and artistic making, foster scientific and artistic production and its dissemination, encourage cooperation practices and academic exchange in teaching and research.

In the evaluation of CAPES for the 2017/2020 quadrennium, PPGAV reiterated Concept 6.
